Children today are too often bombarded by negative influence, impacted by poverty and crime, and threatened by domestic violence and drug abuse. Young families and single mothers are faced with enormous challenges of raising children while lacking the life-skills and support they need.

Boone County team takes training
Monica Ballard, Director, and Colleen McClure, Victim’s Advocate, of the Boone County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) at Cornerstone Family Interventions joined other members of the Boone County Multi-Disciplinary Investigative Team (MDIT) as they traveled to Stonewall Jackson Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia for a MDT Development Training that took place Dec. 6 through the 9, 2011.

Parents as Teachers First Open House
The first monthly Parents as Teachers Open House was on October 27 where both Jessica Halstead– Par- ent Educator, Monica-Ballard– CFI Director, and Volunteer Lois Pauley presented the Parents as Teachers Program.
There were lots of fun activities throughout the evening and there were lots of prizes given away at the event.
We talked about healthy brain development and what activities can help with evelopment. Each family traced their footprints and decorated them. They then took a poem and glued it along with their footprints to a large piece of paper.
